Midyear Momentum: Refocus & Reconnect

As we reach the halfway point of 2026, I encourage each of you to take a moment to reflect. At the beginning of the year, many of us set goals for our businesses, our professional growth, and the clients and communities we serve. Whether you are exactly where you hoped to be or feel like you've lost a little momentum along the way, now is the perfect time to evaluate your progress, celebrate your successes, and make any necessary adjustments. The good news is that there is still plenty of time to refocus, realign, and finish the year strong.

One of the greatest advantages of REALTOR® membership is having access to resources designed to support your success. This summer, NAAR will continue offering valuable continuing education opportunities to help you stay informed, sharpen your skills, and remain competitive in an ever-changing market. I encourage you to take advantage of these classes and invest in your professional development.

As important as education is, so is advocacy. Every day, decisions made at the local, state, and national levels impact our industry, our clients, and the communities we serve. From housing affordability and private property rights to land use, taxation, and regulatory issues, public policy directly affects the work we do and the opportunities available to homeowners and future homeowners.

NAAR remains committed to being a strong voice for our members. Working alongside the Arizona Association of REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS®, we actively monitor legislative and regulatory issues and advocate for policies that support property ownership, housing opportunities, and a healthy real estate market. As we move closer to the 2026 midterm election cycle, it is more important than ever that REALTORS® stay informed, engaged, and involved in the conversations shaping our industry's future.

Thank you for your continued dedication to professionalism, ethical service, and the REALTOR® community. It is an honor to serve as your President, and I look forward to continuing our work together throughout the remainder of the year.

Let's make the second half of 2026 our strongest yet.

A big thank you to Brenden Sands, Michelle Linton, and Ventrice McMaster for proudly representing NAAR at Pride 2026!

NAAR Community Impact Report- June Blood Drive

NAAR’s Community Outreach Committee was proud to organize this month’s Blood Drive, with Pioneer Title Agency generously hosting the event at their office.

Thanks to the incredible support of our members and community, the blood drive exceeded expectations with 27 successful donations, reaching 135% of our goal of 20 donations. We were especially excited to welcome six first-time donors, whose participation helped make this event even more meaningful.

In total, 31 blood products were collected, providing critical support for patients across Arizona during the high-demand summer months. These life-saving donations will help individuals in emergency rooms, cancer treatment centers, and other critical care settings.

We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who donated, volunteered, and helped make this event such a success. Your generosity and willingness to serve reflect the compassion and community spirit that make NAAR so special. Together, we are making a real and lasting difference.

Working Together for Wildfire Resilience

Thank you to everyone who joined us for NAAR’s Wildfire Preparedness Lunch & Learn, and a special thank-you to our guest speakers, Mark Adams, Wildland Community Risk Reduction Specialist, and Neil Chapman, Wildland Forest Health Captain, for sharing their expertise and valuable insights.

Their presentation highlighted the importance of taking proactive steps to reduce wildfire risk and protect homes throughout Northern Arizona. One of the most impactful takeaways from the discussion was this powerful reminder: “If you are only concerned about wildfires when we could have a bad fire season, then you are relying on hope—not preparedness.”

One of the key resources shared during the event was the Wildfire Resilient Homes Initiative (WRHI), a collaborative pilot program between the Flagstaff Fire Department and the Flagstaff Sustainability Office designed to help reduce wildfire risk within the City of Flagstaff by empowering residents to take action.

The WRHI supports residents through three primary resources:

Home Assessments — Trained staff provide free, site-specific wildfire home assessments with recommendations proven to reduce a home’s vulnerability to wildfire.

Wildfire Resilience Kits — After completing an assessment, eligible residents may receive a resilience kit (while supplies last) with tools and resources to take immediate action, including equipment for vegetation management, gutter cleaning, and vent protection.

Financial Assistance — Qualified residents may receive up to $600 in financial assistance to help remove flammable materials within the critical 0–5 foot home ignition zone, one of the most important areas for preventing structure loss.

If you were unable to attend, we encourage you to watch the video above to learn more about wildfire preparedness and the resources available in our community. Preparedness starts long before fire season, and the actions we take today can help protect lives, homes, and neighborhoods tomorrow.

City of Flagstaff and Coconino County Sign Ordinances

This is a friendly reminder that both the City of Flagstaff and Coconino County have sign ordinances in place that govern the placement, size, and illumination of real estate signage. Before placing any sign, please take a moment to review the applicable requirements to ensure compliance.

If you notice a real estate sign that appears to be in violation of local ordinances, please report it directly to the City of Flagstaff or Coconino County. Sign ordinance violations are not enforceable by NAAR.

Coconino County Sign Regulations

Coconino County’s sign regulations, outlined in Section 26 of the Zoning Ordinance, are designed to preserve local character and protect our region’s dark skies. All illuminated signs must follow dark-sky guidelines, including the use of top-mounted, downward-directed floodlights, and must be turned off by 9:00 PM if the advertised business is closed.

Key regulations include:

  • Real Estate & Rental Signs: One unlighted on-site sign is permitted per street frontage, not exceeding 6 square feet or 6 feet in height. For parcels 40 acres or larger, signs may be up to 20 square feet and 8 feet tall.

  • Open House Signs: Both on-premise and off-premise open house signs are limited to 4 square feet and 3 feet in height, and may only be displayed 30 minutes before and after the event.

  • Placement Restrictions: Signs may not encroach on public rights-of-way, be attached to utility poles, or obstruct visibility at intersections.

City of Flagstaff Sign Ordinance

The City of Flagstaff regulates signage and lighting under Chapter 10-08 of its Zoning Code, with a strong emphasis on preserving Flagstaff’s internationally recognized dark skies. Permanent outdoor signs must be turned off by 11:00 PM or when the business closes.

Important provisions include:

  • Illumination Rules: Internally illuminated signs must use opaque backgrounds with translucent lettering to reduce light pollution. External lighting must be fully shielded and directed downward.

  • Residential Signage: Residential properties are generally limited to 16 square feet of portable signage, which may be divided among multiple signs.

  • Sign-Free Zones: Signs are prohibited in public rights-of-way, including utility poles, street trees, and street signs.

Please review the full ordinances using the links below before installing signage. Staying informed helps protect our community standards and ensures we all remain good stewards of the neighborhoods we serve.

Register for NAAR’s Launchpad Series

Don’t miss the remaining sessions of NAAR’s Launchpad Series, featuring real training from experienced members who are actively working in the Northern Arizona market every day.

This is practical, real-world education designed to give you tools you can use immediately in your business. Each class is led by professionals who understand the challenges and opportunities agents face right now.

Free class, free lunch, and valuable time with your peers. We built this series for you and hope to see you there. Please register for the final four classes and let us know what you think so we can continue improving the series.

Managing Stress and Building Resilience Through Locus of Control

Developing strong risk awareness and professional responsibility also means strengthening your ability to think critically and remain composed under pressure. We encourage members to take advantage of the training above and explore this month’s BetterHelp Guidebook for additional tools and insights to support both personal and professional growth.

One helpful concept highlighted in this month’s resources is locus of control, drawn from social learning theory. As defined by the American Psychological Association, locus of control describes how individuals perceive their ability to influence the events in their lives. Those with an internal locus of control tend to believe they can shape outcomes through their actions, decisions, and mindset, while those with an external locus of control may feel that outcomes are primarily driven by outside forces beyond their control.

Understanding this framework can be a powerful tool in managing stress, improving resilience, and making more intentional choices in both work and daily life.
